Chemistry II is an advanced organic chemistry course for students who want to deepen their understanding of how molecular structure influences chemical behavior. Students will begin by exploring the theory of organic structures, spectroscopic techniques for their determination and common reactions of different molecular families with an emphasis on lab skills and problem-solving. This leads to the study of real-world applications such as food science, forensics, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemistry, and atmospheric chemistry, with emphasis on research skills and scientific communication. The year culminates in an independent project on an organic chemistry topic of their choice. This course is ideal for students who enjoyed NGSS Chemistry particularly molecular structure topics like Lewis diagrams and for those considering future studies in science, engineering, or health-related fields. It is also well suited for students who have taken AP Chemistry and want to broaden their chemical knowledge with organic concepts, especially if they plan to pursue medical or health sciences.
