Learning

Learning

ASD is committed to academic excellence; providing an international perspective and a comprehensive education; and preparing every student to be future ready. ASD follows the common core and standards-based learning models for classroom instruction and student assessment, focusing on student mastery of concepts and skills.

Flexible learning spaces in the Early Learning Center and Elementary School enhance the foundation of teaching and learning. The Middle School incorporates Design Thinking and inquiry based learning to allow the exploration of individual interests. The High School offers 25 AP classes, AP Capstone, distance learning, and INSPIRE global trips (cultural, eco-adventurous, or service learning experiences) to enhance the rich educational opportunities.

Early Learning

The PreK (3-year-old), K1 (4-year-old), and K2 (5-year-old) program at ASD is a Reggio-Emilia-inspired, flexible learning environment.

The Teaching & Learning Center

The dual-purpose role of the ASD Teaching and Learning Center is both to provide guidance and support for continuous student learning and to work with teacher teams and departments to fulfill the school mission. The TLC fosters dialogue around the research supporting the best practices in curriculum alignment, assessment, and instruction. ASD’s teachers work collaboratively to share their teaching strategies so that all students benefit from our collective expertise.

Service Learning

Service Learning at the American School of Dubai, integrated in curriculum, blends inquiry and informed action to promote positive change, contribute to social transformation, and develop critical consciousness.Through service learning, students learn about themselves, hone life skills and deepen their understanding of significant global issues.

Technology

Technology is an integral component of learning at ASD for faculty and students. We leverage a wide variety of services and applications across the curriculum. Every Elementary School student has access to a school-provided iPad or MacBook. In Grades 6-12, every student is required to have their own Apple laptop for educational use. The Learning Systems team and tech integrators support K-12 teachers through various in-service programs, online learning, and 1:1 instruction.
