English 10 examines a variety of literary genres (including fiction, poetry, drama, visual, graphic novels and nonfiction) within and across a range of historical periods and cultural and national contexts. Students will develop skills of close reading, textual support, intertextual analysis, visual literacy, and critical thinking. A strong emphasis is placed on developing a lifelong passion for reading while prioritizing the development of student-centered writing skills in a variety of text types. Grammar and vocabulary are addressed as a means to improve the breadth and depth of communication enhanced by the inclusion of speaking and listening skills.
