Olga Gorelaya

In the latest of our Faculty Highlight series, we take 5 minutes to get to know Olga Gorelaya.

What is your role at ASD?

Middle School & High School Dance Teacher.

How long have you been in ASD?

It is my eleventh year at ASD.

Why did you choose to be an educator?

I started dancing when I was 7 years old and started teaching dance when I was 15. Even though I went to University to study finance and business, dance was always my passion. When I finally realized that finance was not for me it was a very easy career switch.

What is your favorite book/quote/movie?

“Don't Let Behavior of Others Destroy Your Inner Peace” – Dalai Lama. (I had a very difficult day and I saw this quote in the elevator coming home.)

What is your favorite class or topic to teach in ASD?

Growing up, I was a ballroom dancer and out of all dance styles, it is still my ultimate favorite. I'd like to think that my students like it as much as I do!

Share something that makes ASD special

At this point, ASD is just like HOME! We made so many amazing memories here, met a few lifelong friends, and connected with great people and educators from around the world. There is a strong sense of community here and everyone is very welcoming.

Share your favorite ASD memory

I have so many amazing memories, it is hard to choose one. But if I had to pick, it would be from our first year in August 2011 when the entire Middle and High school did a flashmob (they were very popular back then) that a small group of HS girls and I put together.
