All School supplies for elementary students are provided for each child through the classroom. Elementary students are required to bring from home a sun hat for outdoor wear and water bottle. For those bringing lunch from home, students bring their own personal lunchbox.
The middle school has grade specific lists of school supplies needed for the year. Enrolled families receive these lists each spring to prepare for the following school year. Supplies can be brought from home or purchased at the beginning of the school year from the ASD school stores.
Because high school courses and needs vary, faculty share supply needs with students at the beginning of a course. Supplies can be purchased locally in Dubai or from the ASD school stores. However, calculators are required for all math courses. Many families purchase calculators in home countries where they are more available and sometimes less expensive. The Texas Instrument (TI)-83, (TI-84) and the (TI)-Nspire models are the standard calculator.
Access to technology supports ASD’s student-centered model of learning. Beginning in grade 6 through grade 12, ASD implements a 1:1 laptop program where students provide their own Apple laptop for educational use. Specifics on the program are introduced to grade 5 parents the spring before students enter middle school. ASD students adhere to a Technology Use Policy which focuses on empowering students to use technology in ways that transform their learning and is tied to the ASD Core Values.
