Learning Support Services

ASD’s school counselors provide a comprehensive counseling program that includes academic, career, and social-emotional counseling. Our School Counselors provide a variety of services based on student need. Some services are universal and offered to all students. Other services are targeted toward small groups of individuals, while still others are only provided to a few students with a higher level of need. ASD can provide referrals for long-term counseling or therapy.

ASD’s Learning Support program reflects our belief that inclusion benefits all learners and strengthens our entire school community. The Learning Support program provides individualized and targeted support for students with identified learning needs, also referred to as students of determination.

We believe that students learn best when they are educated alongside their peers in a supportive, differentiated classroom environment. Our team collaborates closely with teachers, families, and students to ensure that every learner can access the curriculum and achieve personal success.

Support may be provided through:

• Differentiated instruction and classroom accommodations
• Small group or one-to-one instruction
• Co-teaching and in-class support
• Targeted intervention based on individual learning goals

For students who require a higher level of support, small group learning support classes are available to address specific goals outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
 

ASD offers a range of related services designed to support the academic, social, emotional, and communication needs of students. These services complement classroom instruction and work in collaboration with families and educators to help every student reach their full potential.

School Psychologist

Our School Psychologist works with students, parents, and teachers to promote student well-being and success. The psychologist provides consultation, assessment, and intervention to support students’ learning, behavior, and emotional development.

Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)

The Speech and Language Therapist supports the development of students’ communication, language, and speech skills through:

• Conducting screenings and assessments
• Consulting and collaborating with families, educators, counselors, and administrators
• Providing individualized speech and language therapy (additional fees apply)

Occupational Therapy (OT)

ASD partners with an external provider to offer Occupational Therapy (OT) and additional Speech and Language Therapy services. These services help students build the skills necessary for effective learning, participation, and independence in the school environment.

The Life Centered Education (LCE) program, formerly known as Special Education, provides individualized instruction for students with more significant intellectual and developmental needs. The program is designed to help students reach their personal and academic potential while developing the skills needed for greater independence and meaningful participation in school and life.

ASD’s Life Centered Education Teachers work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team, including the on-site Speech and Language Therapist, the Occupational Therapist, and the classroom teachers, to design and implement individualized learning programs.

Student programs emphasize the development of:

• Functional academic skills
• Communication and social skills
• Daily living and life skills

Through a supportive and inclusive environment, the LCE program empowers students to grow in confidence, independence, and self-advocacy. Additional fees apply for Life Centered Education and related services.
