Salary

Minimum starting salary: US $35,000
Maximum starting salary: US $41,500
Maximum salary on scale: US $48,700

One step on the scale for each two years of prior experience up to a maximum initial placement of step five. The US dollar base salary is paid in twelve (12) equal monthly payments and deposited directly into the employee’s US or Canadian bank account.

Cost of Goods and Services

The intent of this allowance is to make up the difference between the cost of items that would routinely be purchased in the US and the cost to purchase the same items in the UAE. This amount varies from year to year as the difference in cost between the two countries fluctuates. The amount for the 2009/2010 school year ranges from $8,732-$9,223 per year for a single teacher, $10,345-$10,950 per year for a married couple with no children, and $11,252-$12,801 per year for a married couple with children. The allowance is paid locally in Dirhams in ten (10) equal monthly payments

Professional Development

Funds of up to $1,200 are available annually to teachers for professional development activities that have direct, tangible impact on student learning. This includes tuition for courses, conference fees, and related costs.

Buffalo State Graduate Courses Offered on Campus for 2010/2011

The following courses may be taken as part of the on-site master’s program or for personal professional development:

Dependent Tuition at ASD

Faculty members are permitted to enroll up to a maximum of two dependent children in the school, tuition free, Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Retirement

If the employee contributes 11.2 percent of his or her base salary into the Raymond James retirement program, ASD makes a total contribution of 18.2 percent of the base salary.

Insurance

Life - ASD provides a policy with a value of two times the employee’s base salary.

Medical and Dental - A plan - inclusive of a base plan, major medical, and prescriptions - is provided through Seven Corners.  ASD pays 80 percent of the premium and the employee pays 20 percent. The current total premium is $883 per month for a family plan, $618 per month for a couple plan, and $314 per month for an individual plan. The plan provides for medical evacuation if necessary.

Long Term Disability - ASD covers full insurance premium for long-term disability.

Housing

Housing is determined according to family size.  Utilities are provided by ASD according to ASD policy.

Settling in Allowance

A settling-in allowance of $8,000-$10,000 is provided, depending on family size. The amount is paid in Dirhams.

Transportation & Leave Allowances - Annual Leave

Air Travel - Initial economy air transport from the employee's home of record to Dubai is provided to the employee upon employment with ASD. For employees returning to ASD for a second year, and for all subsequent years, ASD provides an economy round-trip air ticket for the employee and dependents. Upon termination of employment with ASD, economy transportation from Dubai to the employee's home of record is provided.


Travel Assistance Program - ASD provides one economy return air ticket, to a maximum of four tickets per child, to allow dependent children (maximum 23 years of age) enrolled as full-time students in an undergraduate college or university program to meet their parents once per school year during their parent's vacation period. No cash equivalent is granted.

Shipping Allowances

Initial and Final - Upon employment with ASD, each employee is entitled to 800 pounds (approx Vol 2.2 cubic meters gross) of air freight from home of record to Dubai. Each accompanying dependent is entitled to 200 pounds of air freight. The final shipping allowance is equal to the initial allowance plus an additional 10 percent per year (80 pounds per employee and 20 pounds per dependent), up to a maximum allowance of 1,200 pounds per employee and 300 pounds per dependent.

Miscellaneous

For new hires, a one time payment is provided to reimburse the costs of the required employment physical and entrance visa, as well as fees for attesting educational documents required by ASD.

Taxes

No taxes are assessed by the Emirate of Dubai. US employees are subject to all US tax regulations as they apply to US citizens living overseas.
