| ASD-Al Noor Center Field Day |
|
Feb. 2, 2012 Fourth grade hosts students from the Al Noor Center for Children with Special Needs for a morning of outdoor fun.
The students spent several hours together, engaging in all sorts of fun activities and games. The Field Day follows a visit by the Fourth Grade to the Al Noor Center earlier last month, during which the students attended a presentation on special needs and had the pleasure of meeting one on one with many of the Center's students, working with their buddies in class and playing with them during recess.
The visit to the Al Noor Center and the Field Day are part of the ASD Elementary School Counseling Office's program to introduce fourth graders to community service and the importance of becoming contributing members of society. When asked to comment on the experience, the fourth graders invariably mentioned how much fun they had with their buddies, how much they shared in common, and how their pre-conceptions of, and in certain cases, nervousness toward disabilities vanished after the time spent together at the Center and during the ASD Field Day. They also expressed the desire to stay in touch with their friends from Al Noor Center.
