The award-winning author spends a week at ASD, sharing tips and personal insight on the creative writing process.

Kimberly Willis Holt is an American author who has written several books for young adults and children, including The Water Seeker, My Louisiana Sky, and the Piper Reed: Navy Brat series. One of her most popular books, When Zachary Beaver Came to Town, won the National Book Award in 1999.

During her stay at ASD, Ms. Holt did presentations for students in grades 4-10, talking about why she writes, what inspires her, the writing techniques she uses, and the various aspects of book publication. Throughout the week, she conducted writing workshops for high school and grade 5 students, focusing on character creation and the narrative process.

Ms. Holt also met with staff and parents to discuss the importance of creative writing in the classroom and held a book signing for the ASD community.
